GP holiday assignment bleah

In the context of Singapore's multi-racial society, i think that Szilagyi's view should be adopted. In Singapore, there are many different races, religions and languages. As such, there is an additional need to be sensitive to what is being published by the media. This is important to ensure that Singaporeans will continue to live in harmony. In order for a multi-racial country like Singapore to prosper, everyone needs to cooperate and this is only possible if everyone respects one another. If a race feels offended by something that is published in the media, racial riots might occur, as it did in 1964. I agree with what was mentioned in the article; that once messages are out in the public, they develop a life of their own and become subject to multiple interpretations. This is why i believe the media should practise social responsibility. The media might think that its content is not offensive but members of the public have their own set of opinions.

However, i do believe that freedom of speech is important, to a certain extent. As long as opinions are supported by evidence, the feelings of everyone is considered and the media exercises social responsibility in everything it publishes, freedom of speech is acceptable. After all, it is true that freedom of speech is important for a country to progress. Freedom of speech helps to groom a thinking and creative society. I also believe that sensitive issues should be discussed carefully so as to enhance the understanding of the public, as well as to correct any misconceptions that exist. This is in response to what is said in the first article, about a "view being a dead dogma if not fully, frequently and fearlessly discussed". For example, in Singapore, we have talks on Islam to educate the public and clear the misconception about Islam being a violent religion.

Hey I'm atiQah and this is my gp blog. I'm seventeen this year and currently in Anderson JC. I love my class, 2707! :D We get along very well. Haha. My CCAs are netball and MLDDS. My gp teacher is Mr Peter Herd. He's a really funny guy who cracks jokes like every 5 minutes. Lol. He's pretty easy going. Right? *winks* Haha. I think gp is quite an interesting subject overall. Okay I'm done! Toodles! (:
